 When Bayfield’s Sawmill Trail opened in June, a naturalist approached the Bayfield River Valley Trail Association Executive and enthusiastically told us; “You folks have no idea of how wonderful this new trail is! We have gained access to an incredibly diverse natural environment.” Members of the local Historical Society, informed us that we had reopened access to  the 1870’s Grist Mill owners farm and the original pioneer and  Native American  trail along Lake Huron. This success couldn’t have happened without our Trillium Grant!

The Trail was formally opened on June 6th, 2009 and the Trillium Foundation logo is displayed prominently at the trail entrance

 The biggest challenge in constructing this trail was curing a serious
drainage and erosion problem.
Over 650 feet of drainage tile was installed

 Approximately 1200 hours of volunteer labour has been
invested in constructing the Sawmill Trail
